Q: When is the best time to book senior photos?

A: I get this question all the time and to be honest I shoot senior sessions year ‘round. BUT let me give you my opinion on the BEST time of year to book senior photos. The time of year that is going to give you the best senior photos is the SUMMER before or EARLY FALL. In my opinion Fall is 100% the best time to book your senior’s photos. 

First of all, don’t wait until Spring…because if you haven’t noticed the spring schedules of high school seniors are crazy busy! You’ve got finals, state testing, award banquets, prom, graduation, and graduation parties…not to mention that nagging ‘senioritis’ that is going to leave your senior feeling anxious and eager and a lot of other moods, PLUS it’s also wedding season and everyone else’s graduation season. Do I shoot senior sessions in the spring? Absolutely I do! And I do my best to shorten my processing time to make sure everyone has what they need when they need it. But I’d prefer that you and your senior aren’t stressed to the max when you come to me. :)

Early summer is just beautiful for photos. The month of June provides us with green grass, flowers, and tolerable heat. But July and August? In Texas?? If your face doesn’t melt off during the photoshoot then we call it a good day. :) Starting with a summer senior session gives your senior a chance to show off that carefree summer vibe and style. If she’s craving a multi-season/multi-style session then summer is a great place to kick it off and we can meet again in the fall for a totally different look!

And finally, September and October are by far my favorite months to photograph seniors. They’re far enough into their senior year that they really feel like seniors. They’re visiting colleges and making plans for the future. They’re excited and not yet burned out. But I’ll warn you, fall pictures are high in demand with EVERYONE so it’s best to book early to assure you have the photographer you want and the date that works best for you!
